This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Faculty is responsible for the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.
A postdoctoral research associate position is available within the group of Dr Charlene Greenwood, to carry out research on a project title “Prostate Cancer: High Accuracy Early Diagnosis based on Tissue Microenvironments” and funded by Cancer Research UK.
This innovative CRUK project is in the area of biomaterials and prostate cancer and the research will involve the use of coherent X-ray scattering (wide and small angle) to investigate spatial variations in the physicochemical properties of prostate tissue, in order to identify new prostate cancer biomarkers based on modifications to the tissue microenvironment.
Applicants must have a PhD (or be within 6 months of completion) in biomaterials science and analysis. Experience in analysing biomaterials using coherent X-ray scattering and analysis is essential, and knowledge of human tissue preparation and handling is desirable.
Applicants will have excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, and have an organised approach to the management of their research.
The post is available for 12 months, starting on the 1st Feb, and the successful candidate will also be expected to participate collaboratively with the group and present their results at conferences. The role will also involve supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
